Tim Whiffler (AUS) 1862 (aka Sydney Tim).
The Millers Guide 2010/2011 records him as having started in the 1866 Melbourne Cup however newspaper records of the time suggest this was Walter Craig's Tim Whiffler who ran 5th behind Sydney Tim in the 1867 Cup so I have not included this start in his race record. He was not included as one of Peter Pring's champion racehorses of the 19th Century (see Analysis of Champion Racehorses, published 1977). His 23 wins from 57 starts included 8 that were predecessor races to those later classified Group 1 by the Australian Stud Book when that classification was first introduced for the 1979/80 year.
